The Kubota SVL75-3 is the machine we rent most to homeowners on acreage and to contractors who need a second machine for a week. With the right attachment it replaces a crew of people with shovels and wheelbarrows. Here are ten jobs it handles well, roughly in order of how often we see them.
1. Regrading a yard for drainage
Water pooling against a foundation is the number one call we get in spring. A track loader with a standard bucket back-drags and pushes soil to create a slope away from the house. The rule of thumb is a drop of at least six inches over the first ten feet from the foundation.
2. Building or resurfacing a gravel driveway
Spread and grade the base, then the top course, then compact. A loader moves a triaxle load of gravel in a fraction of the time it takes by hand. Our gravel driveway guide covers the layers.
3. Spreading topsoil and prepping for sod or seed
Ten yards of topsoil is a weekend with a wheelbarrow and an hour with a loader. Back-drag it smooth with the bucket and it is ready for sod.
4. Clearing brush and small trees
With a grapple attachment the loader pulls brush, drags logs and stacks a burn pile or loads a trailer. Stumps are excavator work; brush is loader work.
5. Demolition of a deck, shed or fence
Push it over, break it down, load the dump trailer. A loader turns a two day demo into an afternoon.
6. Post holes for a fence, deck or pole barn
An auger attachment drills consistent holes in minutes each, including through clay that would take an hour by hand. Get locates first.
7. Moving pallets, stone, sod and lumber
Pallet forks turn the loader into a rough terrain forklift. Landscape suppliers drop pallets at the road; the loader gets them to the back yard.
8. Levelling a pad for a shed, garage or pool
Strip the topsoil, level, add and compact gravel. Our shed and garage pad guide has the sequence.
9. Cleaning up after a storm or a build
Downed limbs, construction debris, old fill: bucket it, load it, gone.
10. Snow
A track loader with a snow pusher clears a long rural driveway or a small commercial lot faster than any truck plow, and stacks the snow where you want it. Our winter guide covers technique.
